Mr. Berkey's interest in teaching started in graduate school, when he was a teacher's assistant. He liked the experience so much that he "decided to pursue teaching in area of math and science, two subjects which I enjoy."
Once his teaching career began, he spent a year as a long-term substitute at Methacton High School and another year at North Penn Middle School.
Now that he is here at PALCS, he says that he likes "coming to work each day and working with very devoted and friendly teachers. I also enjoy using my abilities to teach online; using the technology available to make learning enjoyable, interesting, and comprehensive for the students under me. Lastly, I enjoy the students. Last year I met a number of great students, and I look forward to teaching and sparking the imaginations, of my future students."
While not currently in school, he plans on starting a PhD program this year. Berkey would also "like to help lead PALCS into new and different areas of education. Internet education has so many possibilities, and I feel that we at PALCS have only scratched the surface of the educational opportunities we could offer. So that we will be able to reach more students and meet the educational desires and interests of these students."
On a final, cultural note, Berkey adds, "this past summer I spent traveling Asia (China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia) with my wife Sianny. Asia is a wonderful place with a rich culture and history. It has opened my eyes to the differences and similarities between people and cultures. I would highly recommend taking the time to travel to other countries; meet the people, eat the food, see how people live, and make new friends."
