Mrs. Melo got into education to make a difference. With a background in Mechanical Engineering and four years of teaching experience at Chester County Intermediate Unit, she came to PALCS in order to stress academic achievement and encourage students to pursue science and engineering. "To compete in a global economy we have to ensure excellence in all our kids. This will require a paradigm shift, but I believe it can be done."
Melo is working toward that shift - she enjoys "the intellectual freedom to use whatever tools I need to reach the kids" at PALCS, as well as the teacher group dynamic, which she describes as "awesome." She is currently in school at Immaculata University and plans to work on a PhD in Online Education. She is also currently the PALCS National Honor Society / National Junior Honor Society Advisor.
Otherwise, Melo shares: "I became a certified scuba diver in 2002, and have traveled to several outstanding dive sites. I have 2 daughters; the older one (age 24) is an aerospace engineer for the US Air Force and lives in Beaver Creek, OH, with her husband of 2 years. My younger daughter, age 22, is in her second year of medical school in Bradenton, Florida. I have 2 cats, and like to solve crossword puzzles and sudoku. I met my husband in college, when I had a flat tire after a night class in the summer." |
