A new face at PALCS this year is High School Principal Dr. Chris Hardin. Originally from the Lehigh Valley area, Dr. Hardin has his Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication and his Master’s in Education from Kutztown University. Additionally, he has his Principal and Supervisor of Instruction Certifications from Temple University and his Doctorate in Education from Drexel University.

Dr. Hardin began teaching in 2007 and has been teaching online is some capacity since 2011. Prior to teaching he worked as a case manager/site coordinator for a mental health treatment program and in several schools. It was then that he realized his passion for teaching, specifically English as he enjoyed writing and research topics in high school. He went on to earn his graduate degree in education and teaching certifications.

Dr. Hardin chose to teach at the high school level because he believes his personality and interests are most in sync with the high school environment. He truly enjoys the intricate discussions and debating with the students. After several years of teaching high school, he began reading about educational policy in his free time. His interest in education administration began to grow as did his desire to work as a leader in the field of education, specifically supporting and assisting teachers with their individual success.

“Ultimately, I strongly value high quality education for all students and working as a principal can help shape this into a reality for many students over time. I was greatly enjoy interacting with teachers, students, parents and various other stakeholders in the K-12 educational environment,” says Dr. Hardin

Although he may be a principal, Dr. Hardin still continues to teach a course at the graduate school level. It is very important to him to remain an excellent teacher which helps him in his role as an educational leader. He teaches the course via Canvas in a blended format, the focus is on school law which he finds to be very enlightening.

When it comes to cyber school, Dr. Hardin immensely enjoys the potential to reach a large amount of students during various times while utilizing a number of different technologies. He began his doctoral course work in 2012 and began investigating the school cyber programs around the United States and in Pennsylvania. His dissertation research focused on online learning in the high school cyber environment, where he had the opportunity to evaluate and record the experiences of students, parents and school administrators. During his research, he became very interested in the idea and possibility of working in the online education environment as a school administrator.

“PALCS will continue to provide high quality educational content and instruction to students and families throughout Pennsylvania while seeking to continually enhance technological options and course offerings to meet the goals of our educational community,” envisions Dr. Hardin.

In his spare time, Dr. Hardin likes spending quality time with his family and friends. As an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, he enjoys going to games as well as watching them on television. He enjoys reading about a wide range of topics, exercising, and playing golf when time permits.

On behalf of everyone here at PALCS, we would like to welcome our new High School Principal, Dr. Chris Hardin, to our school and community. We look forward to your future at PALCS!
