On Sunday, September 11, 2016, 9th grade PALCS student Falisha Jones of Lehigh County was invited by the Mayor to read the timeline of events from that tragic day 15 years ago at the Catasauqua 9/11 Remembrance Day. This is Falisha’s 6th year with PALCS and her first time participating in Remembrance Day.
The event was held at American Legion Post 215 in Catasauqua, where Falisha and her mother are very involved with their community. They work closely with Mayor Barbara Schlegel, who opened the ceremony on Sunday welcoming all those in attendance to honor all who lost their lives that day.
As the service proceeded, Falisha was invited up to the podium to recite the timeline of events that took place on September 11, 2001. As she recounted each event she paused for a moment of silence, prayers and hymns from the members of the Revolution Church choir, where Falisha’s Grandfather Bishop Jim McIver is the Pastor.
Also in attendance was Borough Police Chief Douglas Kish, who sang the national anthem. Members of the Catasauqua Fire Department honored all of the firefighters who lost their lives during the attacks.
The Choir closed the ceremony solemnly performing “God Bless America” and thanking all those in attendance.
Falisha was honored to be a part of Remembrance Day and to be so involved with her community. We are proud to have Falisha as a student at PALCS and to have her represent our school as a strong community leader.
